Research, Recovery Restoration and Technology for Music and Audio
The MARTLab centre for research and production in the field of musical technology, originates from the collaboration between the Music Academy "Luigi Cherubini" of Florence, the ISTI Institute (partof the National Research Council - CNR) and thanks to the fundamental support of the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze and of RAI (the Italian national broadcasting company, Tuscany division).
The main work area of MARTLab focuses on the recovery and restoration of legacy analog audio supports (and their contents), a crucial and strategic field today, due to the fastand unstoppable chemical-physical deterioration process of these materials.
Though one of the main activities of MARTLab is restoration, the Centre work in the whole area of new musical technologies, in theoretical and applied research, in production and post-production. MARTLab capitalises on the wide set of knowledge and competences developed in twenty years of collaboration between ISTI and the Academy (activities flourished during the Eighties round the course of Musical Informatics created by M° Pietro Grossi and his Computational musicology unit). MARTLab set up, inside a musical institution the heart of a technological pole which aims to distinguish for its peculiar features and qualities.
